Exploratour - The Surface of the Earth
Leave the tour and read more about how craters relate to the age of a planet's surface.
Craters
Like other planets, the surface of the Earth has many craters. There are about the same number of craters on the surface of the Earth as there are on the surface of Venus.
This picture shows the Barringer Meteor Crater in Arizona. The diameter is 1.2 kilometers, and it is 49,000 years old.
